AANC Contest Rules
- AANC Grand Champion Competition
1. Purpose: To efficiently and fairly conduct the AANC Grand Champion Competition
2. Procedure: Standard Operating procedures for the AANC Grand Champion Competition can only be revised by the official action of the AANC Board of Directors
3. Published Rules of the AANC Grand Champion Competition are as follows:
3.1 The official name of the contest is “North Carolina Grand Champion Competition”.
3.2 There shall be two divisions of the competition: (men’s and women’s). The two divisions shall be treated equally in every respect.
3.3 Contestants must be 18 years of age or older, current, active (paid) members of the Auctioneers Association of North Carolina at the time of the entry deadline and contest, , and must be registered for the total convention.
3.4 Contestants must have paid the entry fee by the contest deadline and provide three or more auction items valued at $25 or more. All entries are to be stamped with the date received by the AANC administrator.
3.5 No contest entries will be accepted after the deadline date unless approved by the Contest Committee.
3.6 The administrator will send a confirmation letter to each contestant after the entry deadline.
3.7 There will be four judges. At least one judge should be a woman. Judges may be either auctioneers or members of the AANC Auxiliary. The same judges will serve both divisions. No judge can work with any contestant in their respective businesses either as an employee of subcontractor.
3.8 Judges will be recognized for their participation in the event.
3.9 The selection of the judges will be the sole responsibility of the contest chairperson.
3.10 All contestants must be present at the rules meeting scheduled prior to the contest. A roll call shall be taken and any contestants not present will be disqualified, with no return of entry fee or auction items.
3.11 Competing order will be determined prior to the event by a drawing.
3.12 The two divisions shall be operated consecutively.
3.13 The chairpersons in both the preliminaries and the finals shall introduce contestants.
3.14 The interview portion of the contest will be conducted on stage after the preliminaries and only with the finalists.
3.15 The AANC Championship Committee will decide the interview questions in advance. The questions will not be published in advance.3.16 Contestants will not be asked to chant during the interviews.
3.17 On the scorecard used for the interview segment, the total possible points will be 25.
3.17.1 Presentation – 25 Points
3.17.2 Response – 25 Points
3.17.3 Substance of Answer – 25 Points 3.17.4 Ambassador – 25 Points
3.18 Finalists in the interview portion of the contest shall be isolated from the interview room until it is their turn to be interviewed. The interview portion is the only part of the contest with the isolation restriction.
3.19 On the scorecard used for the bid-calling segments, the total possible points in each category will be as follows:
3.19.1 Presentation: Introduction, Initial command, Appearance, Poise – 10 points
3.19.2 Effective Auctioneering: Body language, Eye Contact, Holds Attention of Audience,
Salesmanship, Overall Effectiveness, Article Description – 40 points
3.19.3 Chant: Voice Control, Clarity, Speed, Rhythm, Timing, Voice Expression – 50
points
3.20 The sound system will be preset and will not be adjusted during the contest.
3.21 If the contestant is not present when called to the podium, he or she will be disqualified.
3.22 The number of items sold by each contestant in each segment will be determined by the contest chairperson.
3.23 The scores from each segment will determine who advances to the finals.
3.24 Contestants with equal scores will both advance to the next segment.
3.25 The number of finalists for each division (men and women) shall be based on a sliding scale:
3.25.1 9 or fewer contestants = no finals
3.25.2 10-14contestants=fivefinalists
3.25.3 15-20 contestants = seven finalists
3.25.4 21-35 contestants = ten finalists
3.25.5 more than 35 contestants = fifteen finalists
3.26 Final scores are determined by combining the interview score with the bid-calling finals score. The interview score will count for 50 percent of the total, and the bid-calling score will count for 50 percent.
3.27 The scores from the prior segment (s) or additional interview questions may be used as the tie-breaker in the finals.
3.28 The lowest scores or the highest scores may be eliminated and the remaining scores will be averaged for the contestants’ final scores.
3.29 The following places will be awarded:
163.29.1 Grand Champion 3.29.2 Reserve Champion 3.29.3 First Runner-Up
3.30 Contestants will not be given the exact order of finish. However, contestants may request their scores, which will be mailed to them within one month after the competition.
3.31 The AANC Championship Committee will instruct the new champions on guidelines for conduct and roles in representing the AANC.

AANC Rookie Bid Calling Contest
1. Purpose: To efficiently and fairly conduct the AANC Rookie Bid Calling Contest
2. Procedure: Standard Operating procedures for the AANC Rookie Bid Calling Contest can only be revised by the official action of the AANC Board of Directors

3.1 The official name of the contest is “North Carolina Rookie Bid Calling Contest”.
